UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN, 2022 - β β β β
This is what we get when you put Spider-Man, Gil Birmingham, True Detective, and Mormons together.
Finished reading π: Red Rising (Red Rising Series Book 1) by Pierce Brown.
The world Pierce Brown crafts is robust, full of details, and political intrigue. It is a cross between Dune and A Song of Ice and Fire in many ways. Highly recommend.
BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD, 2007 - β β β β Β½
This movie is a gut punch. The filmmaking is fantastic (Sidney Lumet's swansong) and the cast is just full of incredible performances.
Day 1: Secure.

A fantastic introduction to a great singer/songwriter.
Anyone have thoughts on Scrivener? How does it compare to iA Writer and others (other than being on Mac and Windows)?
Woke up with a sick dog today. Poor guy :(

As a newer person to Austin, I found this New Yorker article fascinating. It dives into the fast makeover of Austin and what helped get there, as well as Austin’s cultural and demographic history.
Finished reading π: How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us about Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence by Michael Pollan
I’ve always been fascinated by this topic. Pollan approaches it in a scientific yet understandable way.
THE PALE BLUE EYE, 2022 - β β β
An interesting, yet painstakingly slow mystery with a twist I was not expecting.
Why does the US make taxes so confusing and convoluted? π€¬
While I will always love my Seattle Mariners, I’ve found myself enjoying minor league and independet level baseball more for a long time as the Mariners were cellar dwellers. If you’ve never heard of the Savannah Bananas, I recommend you check this out.
